When you need a better Ethernet solution…

We had a lot of requests for a Rugged Ethernet 2 Shield to complement our Ruggeduino and Rugged MEGA boards. The shield needed to carry the same level of quality that all of our products are composed and had to outperform and outlast standard Ethernet Shields in harsh environments. One customer requested the design offer increased resilience to violent lightning storms as they grew tired of replacing their non-Rugged systems after every storm. Another customer requested the board needed to operate down to -40C to compliment our existing Extended Temperature (ET) microcontrollers. So we listened and went to the drawing board. Our engineers carefully reviewed the standard Ethernet 2 Shield design and added some important tweaks to the design and carefully selected high quality components. A 4 layer PCB (opposed to a 2 layer PCB used in other designs) was selected to provide the ultimate foundation to the design. Additionally analog buffers were added to the inputs to boost performance. A specialized custom ethernet connector was sourced to meet the -40C temperature requirement and the circuitry designed accordingly. The result is an ultra reliable, stable, and accurate Ethernet solution suitable for demanding applications in noisy environments with extreme temperature.
